How do we use volumetric flasks

Introduction

Many different kinds of laboratory glassware can be used to prepare chemical solutions. Where accuracy and precision are the most important, volumetric flasks are the best choice.

The flask is made of borosilicate glass, which is widely used due to its chemical resistance, heat resistance, and optical quality. They are also classified as Class A; they provide the highest level of measurement accuracy and accuracy.

We have 10 types of volumetric flasks to choose from: 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 ml, they have a single etching line or scale to indicate the fill line of the selected volume. Each size flask is specially used to prepare the solution corresponding to its nominal value. For example, only when preparing a solution with a total volume of 250 ml, a 250 ml volumetric flask is the appropriate choice.

Procedure

1. Select the appropriate size flask for your program.

2. Calculate and measure the mass of solid materials required to prepare the required solution.

3. Transfer the material to the flask and use a funnel to ensure that there is no material loss during the transfer process.

4. Rinse the side of the funnel into the flask with your solvent (for example, water in an aqueous solution) to catch any residual material that adheres to the funnel.

5. Fill the flask halfway with your solvent, cover the flask and rotate to dissolve the solid material into a solution.

6. After the solid material is dissolved, fill the flask with solvent almost to the etching line.

7. Pause and allow any liquid to run down the side of the flask.

8. Use a drug dropper to carefully add enough solvent to raise the bottom of the solution meniscus to the level of the etching line.

9.Capped, mixed, and the rotation save your solution until ready for use.
